An Ollie for Meals Alternative for Family Dinner in ChatGPT or Claude, With Thanks to Ollie

An Ollie for Meals Alternative for Family Dinner in ChatGPT or Claude, With Thanks to Ollie

Kevin

TL;DR

  • Ollie, the family assistant at ollie.ai, "is sunsetting on Nov 6, 2026." Paid Ollie and Ollie for Meals plans are canceled with a refund for any partial or unused months, and Ollie says it will text you an export of your data.
  • Pantry Persona, which we make, picks up the dinner side of Ollie for Meals inside ChatGPT and Claude. It plans the week from the recipes you've saved, keeps track of your pantry, and builds a grocery list that only adds what you don't already have.
  • Each person in the house gets a profile with their dietary needs, likes and dislikes, and your partner works from the same recipes, pantry, plan and list in their own ChatGPT or Claude.
  • Free covers an unlimited pantry, 100 recipes, 7-day planning, two profiles, receipt scanning and sharing with your partner. Pro is $7.99 a month or $79.99 a year.

Ollie's meal planning started with a text. On Sunday a few dinner ideas showed up in the thread, you picked the ones that sounded good, and the grocery list came back "organized by aisle." Ollie's homepage put the whole loop in one line: "From 'what's for dinner?' to groceries ordered, all from a text."

Ollie closes on November 6. It was a real inspiration for creating Pantry Persona, and I wanted to say so before that date. Ollie showed that help with family dinner could come to you in a conversation. I wanted that experience to live inside ChatGPT, Claude and the other AI assistants people already talk to.

To everyone at Ollie, thank you for building it. The rest of this page is for the families who planned dinner with Ollie for Meals and need a new home for that job on the 7th.

Is Ollie shutting down?

Yes, on November 6, 2026. Its farewell page says paid Ollie and Ollie for Meals plans will be canceled with a refund for any partial or unused months, and that "Ollie will text you an export of your data."

Can an AI meal planner in ChatGPT or Claude replace Ollie for Meals?

Yes, for the weekly dinner loop, if your family already has dinners it likes. Pantry Persona works inside ChatGPT and Claude and keeps a memory of your kitchen there: the recipes you've saved, what's in your pantry and what's about to expire, and a profile for each person with their dietary needs, likes and dislikes. When you ask it to plan the week, that is what it plans from.

One thing works differently. Ollie wrote recipes for you: its meals page says it would "write a recipe just for you." Pantry Persona plans from recipes you've saved. ChatGPT or Claude can still suggest something new on any night, and when a new dinner goes over well, you save it and it joins the rotation.

That memory is the part ChatGPT and Claude don't keep well on their own. Their built-in memory holds notes from earlier chats, which is different from knowing what's on your shelf tonight. We go through what it keeps and what it drops in can ChatGPT remember your kitchen.

Scroll back through your Ollie thread before the 6th. The dinners you asked for most are the first recipes to save.

How do you move family dinner planning into ChatGPT or Claude?

Set it up once, and then plan each week in a conversation. This order gets a family from its Ollie thread to a planned week.

Start with the dinners your family already asks for

Before the 6th, scroll back through your Ollie thread and write down the dinners that came up again and again: the Tuesday tacos, the sheet-pan chicken, the pasta everyone eats. Those are your first recipes. Paste a link to the recipe and Pantry Persona saves it, or send a photo of the cookbook page. A dozen dinners your family already likes give the planner more to work with than a hundred it has never cooked.

If you saved recipes in Ollie and have its two export files, Ollie-AI-Import.md and Ollie-Cookbook.pdf, they can come with you. On the Pantry Persona website, open Recipes, choose Import recipe, then From another app, pick Ollie and drop in both files. Your recipes arrive with their photos, and each Ollie folder becomes a collection. The files still import after Ollie closes.

Give each person a profile

Ollie learned your family's tastes from a few quick questions. In Pantry Persona you set each person's dietary needs, likes and dislikes once, and it applies them every time you plan. Likes move a recipe up and dislikes move it down, so the kid who won't touch mushrooms sees fewer mushroom dinners. If someone in the house is vegetarian, put that in their profile and the planner works from it.

Plan the week a day at a time

On a Sunday, ask ChatGPT or Claude to plan the week. It plans from your saved recipes in one conversation, a day at a time, and you see each day before it goes into the plan. If the spinach is about to expire, it flags it and offers to plan around it. Save your household's busy nights, and it keeps those dinners quick. Thursday fills up, so you ask it to move the tacos to Friday, and it does. There is a longer walk-through in how to plan a week of meals in one conversation.

Shop only what's missing

When you shop the plan, the list comes back sorted by aisle and only adds what you don't already have, the same aisle-sorted list Ollie sent. If you've saved staples like milk and eggs, it shows which ones are missing and asks before adding them. Send the list to Instacart or take it to the store.

Restock after the trip

After you shop, scan the receipt and the pantry restocks with what you carried in. Send a photo of your fridge with a short ask, and it adds what it can see. Mark a recipe cooked and its ingredients come out of the pantry, so next week's list stays right without you counting anything.

Ask "what's for dinner?" on a night with nothing planned

Ollie's whole loop started with that question, and it still works. With your recipes saved and your pantry tracked, just ask your AI "what's for dinner?" and it starts from your saved recipes, with the ones you have the most ingredients for first.

Share it with your partner

Pantry Persona gives your partner the same recipes, profiles, pantry, plan and list from their own ChatGPT or Claude, and what either of you adds shows up for the other the next time they look. Your partner can add to the shopping list, edit it and check items off from the store. Sharing with one partner is free. For how couples split dinner once both of them can see it, see how to share the mental load of dinner.

Where does Pantry Persona work if you liked texting Ollie?

Inside ChatGPT and Claude, on free and paid plans. You install it from the ChatGPT plugins directory or Claude's connector directory, on any plan, free included. It also works inside Meta Muse and Gemini Spark on the web.

If what you liked most was talking to Ollie, two options come closest. On a paid Claude plan you can plan your week by voice. And if you'd rather message it like a contact, you can run OpenClaw on your own machine and reach your pantry from WhatsApp, Telegram or Discord.

Common questions

Is there a free Ollie for Meals alternative?

Yes. Pantry Persona's free plan covers an unlimited pantry, 100 saved recipes, 7-day meal planning, two family profiles, receipt scanning and sharing with your partner, inside free ChatGPT or Claude accounts. The free plan also sends your grocery list to Instacart. Pro is $7.99 a month or $79.99 a year and adds 30-day planning, up to 8 profiles and a 2,000-recipe library, and new Pro subscriptions start with a 7-day free trial.

Which AI meal planner can replace Ollie for Meals?

Pantry Persona can, if your family already has dinners it likes. Save those recipes, and inside ChatGPT or Claude it plans the week from them, applies each person's likes and dislikes, and builds a grocery list that only adds what you're missing. The difference from Ollie is that it plans from your saved recipes instead of writing new ones for you.

Do I need a paid ChatGPT or Claude account?

No. Pantry Persona works on free ChatGPT accounts and on every Claude plan, Free included. Planning by voice needs a paid Claude plan.

Save the dinners you'll miss first

Ollie closes on November 6, so the most useful thing to do this week is a look back through your Ollie thread: find the dinners your family asked for most and save them before the thread goes quiet. Connect Pantry Persona to the ChatGPT or Claude account you already have, add those dinners from a link or a photo of the cookbook page, then ask it what's for dinner.

Give your AI a memory for your kitchen

Pantry Persona connects to ChatGPT as a plugin and to Claude as a connector, so your AI actually knows what's in your fridge, who you're cooking for, and what you made last week.
